The 8th edition of the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards has once again crowned two new continental overall winners!

The winners of the 8th edition of the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards were announced today during a ceremony held in Accra, Ghana. Eighteen-year-old Tanaka Chonyera has put Botswana on the map by scooping top honours in the essay category. Nineteen-year-old Priscilla Marealle was announced as the overall winner in the poster category, making it a back-to-back win from Tanzania.

Eutelsat partners with Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation and the Association of Ethiopian Broadcasters for video capacity on EUTELSAT 8 West B

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) has signed simultaneous multi-year contracts with the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation and the Association of Ethiopian Broadcasters for video capacity on its EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite. The aggregate of these contracts represents multi-transponder capacity, including incremental resources.

Known as the country at the centre of the world, Ghana was also the first country to produce an overall poster winner during the inaugural DStv Eutelsat Star Awards.

Eurobroadband Infrastructure (EBI), a subsidiary of Eutelsat (NYSE Euronext: ETL), is launching a Preferred Partner Programme for the distribution of capacity on its KA-SAT satellite. The programme aims at revitalising the distribution of KA-SAT capacity to boost the deployment of internet access via satellite, further bridging the digital divide, in line with EU 2020 targets.

NHK partners with Eutelsat for the launch of the world’s first 8K channel

NHK, Japan’s national broadcaster, has partnered with Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext: ETL) to launch the world’s first 8K network; BS8K. The live broadcast took place on December 2nd from the Vatican where images were transmitted to Tokyo via EUTELSAT 12 West B satellite with a mobile uplink provided by M-three Satcom.

MASMOVIL Group to provide satellite broadband services throughout Spain via KA-SAT

Deal highlights the role of satellite in complementing the terrestrial infrastructure MASMOVIL Group, Spain’s fourth largest telecommunications operator, has signed an agreement with Eutelsat (NYSE Euronext: ETL)’s subsidiary, Eurobroadband Infrastructure, to distribute broadband services to under-connected areas across the country via the KA-SAT satellite.

Paris, 29 November, 2018 – An amendment to the French Finance Law for 2019, modifying the general tax code, aims at specifying the rules relating to the territoriality of corporate tax applicable to companies operating telecommunications satellites.
It is too early at this stage to assess the eventual impact for Eutelsat in the event that the amendment is adopted.
